As we occasionally have the opportunity to travel and see different types of agriculture in various parts of the country or network with other farmers, I find that this continually forces me to think of our own small farm and how I can become a better marketer/grower/business person or to wrap all these things up in one term, farmer. I really try to glean things from farm operations that have effectively reached out to consumers to directly market their products, which is part of the reason why I started this website.
The disconnect between consumers at the grocery store and the farmer in the field is a huge problem for agricultural producers today. Now, I understand there are a number of processes that take place to convert raw product into the safest food supply in the world, but consumers need to be educated on what it takes to make the fundamental products for their loaf of bread, dozen eggs, ice cream and hamburger helper. I am on my farmer soapbox a little bit here, but I truly feel that those that know where their food comes from or know the people and process behind their food; have a greater appreciation the next time their family sits down for a meal together. Consumers that are more in touch with their food supply can appreciate that what is produced in the United States is the safest food supply in the history of the world.
We are proud of the way we care for our animals here at Elliott Farm and we feel that is displayed in the product provided to our customers. Because of this, we encourage prospective customers to come take a tour of Elliott Farm & Livestock and get the real story behind your food.
